Apostrophes


They are not called, "commas at the top..."

  • Apostrophes are used to show belonging/ownership/possession.
    • Example: Sally's dog.
  • Apostrophes are used in contractions.
    • Example: don't

They are not used in words that are made plural!

  • Example: The lady walks the dogs. (plural)
  • Example: The dog's collar was tight around his neck. (possessive)


You have to read, and use context clues to understand if it is something that is plural or possessive.
